My name is Josh and I was addicted to porn for 16 years of my life before breaking free just 5 years ago. That’s a long time and it only got worse the longer it went on! Like many of you out there, I felt completely helpless against my addiction. No matter what I did, it just seemed impossible to stay porn free. And it seemed like the addiction would only come back stronger each time I fought with it. At a point, I eventually gave up, accepting that this would forever be a part of my life, as depressing as that notion was. I felt powerless against it. I wanted to quit. I could see the havoc that porn was wreaking on my life and my relationships. But no matter how badly I wanted to quit, I would always find myself going back to porn automatically, like some kind of robot. I’d be doing well, have a few days of sobriety under my belt, and then BANG – suddenly I was PMO’ing on some website. I’m sure a lot of you can relate. So what happened? The grooves in my brain leading from stimulus to pornography were so deep, so well connected that anytime something triggered me, it automatically lead me back to porn including all of the actions to get there. It was all hardwired into my brain. And it would all happen so fast that I felt like I didn’t even stand a chance! How can you exercise free will when the choice is made for you before you even have a chance to think about it?
So how do you stand up to something like that? How do you break free from an addiction when you get to the point where you literally no longer have free will over your actions? That’s what I’m going to teach you, in this post and many more to follow. So if this is information that could help YOU or somebody you know, then make sure to subscribe to follow along. Let’s get into it:
Now switching timelines may sound like some mumbo jumbo voodoo magic, but let me explain. What I really mean is that in order to successfully quit porn, you must first undergo a radical shift in your identity to that of a non-porn user. So what does that look like? Well simply put, it is putting yourself in the shoes of someone who doesn’t use porn and telling yourself that is who you are now.
Close your eyes. Imagine yourself as someone who never uses porn – not occasionally, never. What does that person feel like? What would that person’s thought patterns look like? Did you feel the shift? You don’t have cravings for porn as a non-porn user. That wouldn’t make any sense. Now carry that identity with you. That is who you are now. Most importantly, remind yourself every morning before the start of your day that this is who you are now. Because the brain is quick to forget, you must remind it who you are. Start filtering your thoughts and feelings through this new identity going forward. What would me as a non-porn user do in this situation? How would he feel about this? Now carry that with you.
This is just one tip of many that I have for you guys and I hope it helped. If you’d prefer to get all the information all at once in one, easy-to-read format, I have an e-book available that covers EVERYTHING that I’ve learned over the many years of wrestling with porn addiction including many topics and tidbits that you won’t find anywhere else. In that book I go over what works, what doesn’t, and most importantly, give you a blueprint to achieving a porn-free life regardless of whether you’re the occasional user or a hardcore porn addict.
